The Church needs vision!
I’m nearing the end of a lengthy series of posts, offering prayers for the Church focusing on different areas (see list and links below).
According to Bill Hybels, “Vision is a picture of the future that produces passion” (see my post on Hybels’ book, Courageous Leadership). Hybels calls vision “a leader’s most potent weapon,” saying it’s “at the very core of leadership.”
Andy Stanley also writes a lot about vision (he wrote Visioneering and Making Vision Stick; see my post on Making Vision Stick). Stanley notes, “It’s the leader’s responsibility to ensure that people understand and embrace the vision of the organization.”
O God, thank you for the Church, for its mission, and for calling us to be part of what you’re doing in the world!
Your Word notes that in the last days your people would dream dreams and see visions. We would be a people who have a picture of the future!
I pray that our picture of the future would not be limited to our own hopes, ideas, and agenda, but that they would ultimately come from you. Birth your vision in the hearts of your people!
Help us to be passionate about the vision you give us. And help us to be willing to pay the price of vision!
May the pursuit of your vision be all for the glory of God, and may it bring honor to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Amen.
(Previous prayers include: awakening, transformational leaders, urgency, hope, health, compassion, action, unity, power, favor, endurance, trust, discipline, and courage.)
Very well written!
Thanks!
For a good while I have been wanting how to include my church and its ministries in my prayers. Your prayer has given me the inspiration I need. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment. I’m glad this prayer is helpful!
